Global Design and Costume Creation Project
True genius often comes from a collaboration of minds and hearts.
We want to make an award winning costume, and will give full credit to this site and the entire costume building team at GenCon Indy this year.
Right now, the costume is an open book... the only starting point is the Cyberpunk futuristic world of Shadowrun.
This past weekend we had a chance to experiment with embedding Liquid Latex onto spandex/cotton blend fabric and it was a huge success.
We learned a few lessons...
1) airbrush latex only. We attempted to foam brush a base coat and then airbrush.. but this made it harder to get the super smooth results we wanted. I still ended up with a very shiny pair of latex shorts, but the production run will be better than the Beta.
2) Do this early in the day. There is a LOT of standing very very still involved- sometimes an interesting challenge for twitchy me, but I suceeded. I think this will be easier early in the day when I am not tired. ( also not after a weekend of partying...)
3) Be sure the base clothing is very well fitted. The clothing looses a small bit of the stretch and cling when embedded with latex and we ended up with a small amount of crotch sag. Nothing horrid, but not want I want for the costume look and feel. We will need to make some small nips and tucks into the clothing first and not rely on the spandex elasticity for fit.
Plans Next?
I am ordering a gallon of the liquid latex and already have some trim colors that can be added ( including glow in the dark). We will have the last week of August to do all the Latex/spandex creation.. so get those ideas in and give me something really cool to build.
To help get things started, lets open this up for design ideas. Please upload in the talk forums your sketches of what you think a very cool, very sexy costume would look like. It can be computer generated or hand drawn and scanned in. After we get a few, we will put up a poll to choose the winning design.
Once a design is chosen, we will focus on execution methods. For now, there are no limitations.. let your imagination run wild... what can you dream up? What would the cyberpunk chick of your dreams look like?
Goal: I want to have a prize winning costume for genCon Indy this year. need help building it.
