The "Piracanga Reservation, Bahia, Brazil, radical ecology" project is, despite its somewhat lengthy name, a truly remarkable project: Driven by its initiator Geraldine Belmont, it aims at saving a whole region – in its entirety. So the project combines education, economy and ecology. If this can work? We are pretty sure it will: The idea behind the Piracanga Reservation is excellent!

The organization behind the project is called Yonic, and was founded on the ground in the Bahia region of Brazil. Geraldine, who first came here as a tourist, was struck by the beauty and decided she would want to dedicate her life to the preservation of the flora, the fauna, and the society.

So, today Yonic is saving turtles and Mangrove trees, and at the same time educates the local natives in sustainable techniques like recycling plastic waste into art and bricks for building. The ultimate goal is to open up a holiday resort which lets tourists enjoy the beautiful landscape as well as sensitize them towards the fragility of this natural wonder.
