Yesterday the 14th Web Monday took place. IBM was our host and really spoiled us with a great location and apero.
We had a great variety of speakers:
Siddhartha Arora, our host, presented IBM's Global Entrepreneur Initiative, which aims to help startups capture new business opportunities. Under this new program, IBM provides access to its research community, sales, marketing and technical skills. We were the first to hear about this initiative in Switzerland, as the IBM Switzerland marketing machinery hasn't started communicated the initiative yet. Interested startups can already apply here: http://www.ibm.com/isv/startup
Amir Suissa presented his brand-new start-up DeinDeal, which has been launched a couple of weeks ago. DeinDeal.ch is a group buying website that offers a daily coupon for the best deals in your town with savings of up to 70% on restaurants, wellness, beauty, sports and culture. Amir told us in more detail what DeinDeal is about and clarified that it is simply another copycat of the highly successful GroupOn model from the US. Copycat or not - we wish them lots of success!
Till Quack from Kooaba held a very interesting presentation on the history and future of visual search and presented two tools in more detail: Paperboy and ShootingStar. These help you explore, share and remember things you see by recognizing your snapshots.
Last but not least Mark Melnykowycz presented his art work: in his group "Web Portraits Zurich" he creates cool images and portraits of the people involved in the web and startup scene around Zurich and Switzerland. Here some impressions: http://www.amazee.com/web-portraits-zurich - join the group if you want to be one of the next models!
Thanks to all for coming!

Last Web Monday and StartupCamp
01/19/2010 11:45am by Dania GerhardtYesterday the 12th Web Monday Zurich took place. Starting 6.30pm the LIIP/Nektoon office started filling up with more than 60 Web Monday members enjoying the delicious bagels and enjoying the Amboss beer, white wine and prosecco. Thanks again to LIIP/Nektoon and Andreas Hoffmann/UBS for sponsoring the event!
The presentations showed the great diversity of the Zurich Web Scence: Dorian Selz presented memonic.com, which allows its users to "keep the essential". Andreas Hoffmann presented the outcome of the Web 2.0 Competition run by UBS among the Web Monday Zurich community. He was very pleased that 35 great ideas and concepts have been entered with many ideas for UBS to follow up on. Congrats to the three winners! You can find Andreas' presentation here: http://www.amazee.com/node/257/files
Last but not least Maud Chatelet presented her interesting and useful startup Howtopedia.org, a collaborative platform for practical knowledge and simple technologies that are easily explainable and usable by individuals or small communities for a sustainable and ecological future.
Again it was great fun and I'm pleased to see the community growing with each event. Please contact me if you are interested in presented your startup and/or hosting one of the next events.
I'd also like to announce the StartupCamp here, which will take place on 13 February in Basel. Don't miss it: http://www.amazee.com/startupcamp-switzerland-0

Notifications about poll!
03/18/2009 10:01am by Dania GerhardtJust wanted to say sorry to those of you who have received many notification mails of people having participated in the poll. It seems that the notifications have been jammed and since yesterday they are all being sent out. We are working on it!
If you want to change the frequency of your notification settings, for example to only receive a daily summary of all activities in your project, go to Personal -> Profile -> Settings.
Sorry again!
