This week, Roland Studer answers our three questions. He is very interested in the possibilities and limits of the usability of a website or a web service. Therefore he has founded the UX Book Club for Zurich and Switzerland, the members of which have already met two times. Here are his answers:
Why are you at Amazee?
I have heard of Amazee for the first time when I read about the Amazon vs. Amazee case. But I only checked out Amazee after someone of
Atizo had invited me to a
Marketing Chuchi event. There I met Gregory of Amazee and he sparked my interest in his site. So, I checked out the platform. I thought to myself, I could best try out Amazee when I start a project. This reminded me that I had wanted to establish a book club for User Experience (UX) for a long time. These clubs exist
all over the World. About 30 minutes later I had
set up the project and already two members had joined. So far we have had two meetings and 27 people interested in the events.
So, I am at Amazee because it helped me to realize an idea which I had carried around with me for quite some time.
In what way does Amazee help you reach your goals?
The project magazine and the polls and all these tools are very handy, they help one to get organized. Sometimes, however, these tools are a bit cumbersome to handle (if I may say this as a Usability specialist). In the end, however, it is the people who decide if we reach a goal or not, and Amazee has helped me to find these people and I am thankful for that.
What impact will the Internet have on social action in the future?
The Internet can bring people closer and break down barriers. A great example is
Kiva.org, where I can support people from around the World with 25 Dollars worth of micro credits. Thus, one helps others directly to help themselves and at the same time one creates a connection to this other person, learns their history, which otherwise wouldn't be possible.
The Internet creates this connection to other people, who share our interests and values, it gives us the tools to discuss the important topics in public. Maybe the Internet will make us more aware that we are not alone in this World. Ultimately, the Internet is just a tool like so many others. Everybody has to take responsibility, everybody has to decide for themselves how they act and what is important to them.
