With the news that the president’s family now has a new dog living in the White House, we didn’t want our little house in Haiti to be left out of all the attention! Meet Lala... She’s was found on the street in our little town in Haiti. She was hit by a motorcycle and badly injured. Her wounds were so deep that her bones were sticking out. Between myself, our kid’s doctor (there is no vet in Jacmel) and some antibiotics and bandages we nursed her back to health (almost). Lala is doing well now and is friends with all the little ones. She still drags her one injured leg behind her but that doesn’t stop her from playing with the kids.

Street dogs are poorly treated in Haiti with people kicking them throwing rocks at them. This makes dogs afraid of people for the most part. Because of this, children are taught to stay away from dogs and that they are dangerous. This repeats the cycle of people growing up abusing street dogs. The whole thing is sad - but at our little home for AIDS orphans we found room for one little furry orphan and we’re showing folks that dogs and kids can be friends!
